‘King Khan’ Appointed Honorary Ambassador of Korea

The Most Famous Bollywood Star Mr. Shahrukh Khan Appointed the ‘Honorary Ambassador of Korea in India

‘King Khan’ Appointed Honorary Ambassador of Korea The indisputable czar of Bollywood, ‘Shahrukh Khan’ has been given the title Honorary Ambassador of Korea in India. Subsequently, the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) also conferred upon Mr. Shahrukh Khan an ‘Honorary Black Belt (5 Dan) of Taekwondo’.  A grand ceremony was held at the Taj Lands End Hotel in Mumbai on October 15th, 2009. Several high-profile delegates associated with Mr. Shahrukh Khan and delegates representing the Korea Tourism graced the event.

The association with Mr. Shahrukh Khan is quite momentous as he is the very first Bollywood star to be appointed Honorary Ambassador of Korea after the opening of the KTO India office in New Delhi in May 2008. ‘Korea, Sparkling’ is the official tourism brand of Korea and symbolizes the lively energy of the Korean people and culture.

To showcase the many fascinating tourism destinations and experiences South Korea has to offer, the ceremony included the screening of the Korea, Sparkling promotional film, followed by the screening of a film about the famous Korean martial art, Taekwondo.

‘King Khan’ Appointed Honorary Ambassador of Korea King Khan is by far the most popular and loved Bollywood star worldwide, and the Korea Tourism Organization is confident that his association with the ‘Korea, Sparkling’ Brand will help in further enhancing awareness and interest in Korea among his fans. Mr. Shahrukh Khan conveyed his appreciation to the KTO for appointing him its Honorary Ambassador to India and conferring upon him the title of ‘Honorary Black Belt of Taekwondo’.

Mr. Shahrukh Khan further revealed that he has developed a keener interest in sports such as Taekwondo now because of his children who are both gifted in sports. His son Aryan, has been awarded 10 gold medals while his daughter, Suhana has won 3 gold medals in sports activities at the school level. Moreover, as the general interest in various sports has picked up across the nation, Mr. Khan said he feels this is a very appropriate time to associate with a country like Korea, which is well known for its strong base in sports.

The years 2010 to 2012 have been officially designated “Visit Korea Years’ by the Korean government, and during this time, special tours of Korea will be organized. As such, tourists from India visiting South Korea can look forward to participating in a variety of exciting cultural events and shopping festivals.
