| Introduction | ||
| When you arrive in Gurye, you’ll spot the sansuyu flowers right away. The entire area of Gurye is covered with sansuyu blossoms every spring. With an abundance of these unique flowers, Gurye is well-known for its tea, liquor, and foods produced by them. The Sansuyu Flower Festival, which takes place at the hot springs tourist site at the foot of Mt. Jirisan, features a wide variety of programs including performances, hands-on events and fireworks. Event Programs: The Sansuyu Flower Festival begins with a traditional ritual to pray for a good harvest throughout the year. The festival comprises of performances/cultural events, hands-on events and much more. A variety of performances/cultural events include classical Korean music, traditional Korean dances, folk songs, creative dances, drumming, and world folk performances. The hands-on programs mainly involves sansuyu where visitors can stroll along a walkway adorned with sansuyu flowers; make pillows with sansuyu seeds; prepare sansuyu liquor; enjoy free samples of sansuyu liquor and tea; and dye an item using natural dyes made with sansuyu. Participants in other events can receive a souvenir key ring or a mobile phone cord created by using photos of sansuyu blossoms taken with a digital camera on the spot. Another fun creative activity is making fans shaped as sansuyu blossoms. Participants will also enjoy making kites, Korean tops, and jegi (a Korean hacky sack). Other folk games are also available to enjoy. Festival Highlights: Another tourist highlight is the sansuyu flower carriage ride. People don't refuse to wait for a quite long time to enjoy this program. While it is certainly exciting to take a stroll along the sansuyu walkway, riding in a carriage decorated with flowers offers a whole new experience. |
